The verdict is in, Kate Middleton wears a Sarah Burton for Alexander McQueen wedding dress! Although secretly (or not), we’ve all been rooting for McQueen, it does come as a surprise, especially when you think of McQueen as such a visionary and forward label and Kate who tends to have a more conservative style. HOWEVER, I think I speak for most of us when I say that the dress – a Victorian sweetheart corset underneath a Chantilly lace bodice with long sleeves and a full pleated ivory skirt and train – is a stunner. The dress manages to stay true to McQueen a signature – that Victorian corset – while remaining quite elegant, simple and classic, yet providing direction. I mean LONG SLEEVES! I called it out at the Golden Globes back in January and now long sleeves are certain to make a lasting impression, taking over where sleeveless evening and wedding silhouettes have long had reign. The selection of Sarah Burton for McQueen as the royal wedding dress designer is obviously the ultimate choice for a British designer and is simply glorious for the label. As far as classic wedding dresses go, Kate’s dress comes quite close to that of Grace Kelly’s dress in 1956 when she wed Prince Rainier of Monaco.

On another note, I was first a little taken back by Kate’s sister Pippa in a long white sheath, also by McQueen, however I absolutely love it in context with Kate’s dress.
