Gareth Pugh is no stranger to film, having replaced his S11 runway show with a video. And apparently, now he’s no stranger to medieval churches either, with a collection inspired by religious iconography. As Pitti’s guest designer, Pugh featured his latest film directed by Ruth Hogben, projected on the ceiling of Florence’s Orsanmichele church. Cue black/white, naked bodies, string instruments mixed with thudding beats, kaleidoscopic effects, robotic movements, underwater action, plastic-y billowing volumes, Virgin Mary blue and a symbolic Sistine Chapel finish, and that pretty much sums it up.
