As I mentioned early on in the Spring 11 season, there was something of a Pheobe Philo Effect, whereby a number of designers latched onto minimalist sportswear reminiscent of the designer’s Fall 10/11 collection for Céline. With such strong reference to the Philo’s aesthetic, one wondered what would be next for the designer who is now in her 3rd season for the label.
Still minimalist? You bet. The show may have not been as momentous as it was last season, but there were still some strong messages to take away. Sterile white and ivory magnified crisp shapes such as tunics and an array of clinical white shirts that recalled Prada’s hospital scrubs. Low-slung, dropped crotch pants were a definite must-have, while crafty knitwear, jumpsuits, capes, denim and leather also composed the collection.
