Half-way through NY Fashion Week and we’re witnessing “The Philo Effect” as a recurring trend. There is no doubt that last season’s most talked about collection was Céline under the direction of designer Pheobe Philo, who in her 2nd season for the label, took minimalist sportswear to new heights. This time around, sportswear rings particularly true to the NY collections. Afterall, what could be more American than sportswear?
While there are some decidedly Philo moments like higher rises and wide leg trousers, I like that the American designers are in some ways more youthful – as in Vena Cava’s short suit and looks from Band of Outsiders. Various updates to trench coats (such as sans sleeves) and good old classic overalls are other great additions to the sportswear trend.
